GREENSBORO, NC – June 30, 2025 – FUJIHATSU & TOYOTSU Battery Components, North Carolina LLC (FTBC), a joint venture between Fujihatsu Tech America, Inc. (a subsidiary of Fuji Springs Co., Inc.) and Toyota Tsusho America, Inc. (TAI), today announced the successful completion of the installation of manufacturing facilities for prismatic cell cases and cell covers. These components are specifically designed for automotive batteries used in battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), with the expansion finalized as of June 2025.
This strategic investment significantly strengthens FTBC’s production capabilities, enabling the expansion of its manufacturing operations to meet the growing demand for BEV and PHEV components, alongside its established production system for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) components.
Background of Expansion
Fuji Springs Co., Inc. and TAI established FTBC in July 2023 with the primary objective of addressing the increasing market demand for prismatic cell cases and cell covers. This initiative is particularly noteworthy as the U.S. automotive battery market has predominantly utilized cylindrical and laminate (Pouch) type batteries. FTBC successfully introduced manufacturing facilities for HEV prismatic cell cases and cell covers in March 2024, commencing mass production shortly thereafter. The current expansion caters to the rising demand for components compatible with BEVs and PHEVs, for which significant market growth is anticipated.
Overview of New Manufacturing Facilities for BEVs and PHEVs
The newly installed manufacturing facility for BEV and PHEV components is scheduled to commence operations by June 2025. FTBC projects a mass production capacity of 1.1 million cells per month by 2026. The company is also actively considering further expansion of its production scale in direct response to evolving customer demand.
Fuji Spring brings its extensive manufacturing technology, deep industry knowledge, and a significant market share in the Japanese market for prismatic cell cases and cell covers to this venture, aiming to ensure a stable and high-quality supply.
TAI will leverage its comprehensive sales and procurement functions, global network, and expertise as a trading company to build an optimal supply chain within the rapidly expanding electrified vehicle market. TAI also provides crucial support for FTBC’s production system and overall management operations.
Through FTBC, Fuji Springs and TAI are committed to ensuring a stable supply of prismatic cell cases and cell covers for HEVs, BEVs, and PHEVs. This collaborative effort will bolster the automotive battery supply chain, contributing significantly to the wider adoption of electrified vehicles and the global pursuit of carbon neutrality.
